Flint's Woodshop has been building furniture and cutting boards from Michigan hardwood in Macomb County since 2003. Every end-grain board on this site is a single finished piece — when one sells, it is gone, because no two are cut from the same layup.
End-grain construction means the board is built from the cut ends of the wood rather than its face. The fibres stand vertically, so a knife edge parts them instead of slicing across them. That is why an end-grain board is gentler on your knives than an edge-grain or plastic board, and why it closes back over the cut marks instead of collecting them. It is slower to build and it uses more wood, which is why most boards you find in a store are not made this way.
Boards run from $185 to $345 depending on size and the layup, from compact 13″ prep boards to 21″ serving and charcuterie boards. Each one is finished with food-safe oil, ready to use the day it arrives.
Every board includes custom laser engraving at no charge — a $75 value. Send a name, a date, a monogram, a recipe in a family member's handwriting, or a logo, and we will send you a proof before anything touches the wood. Anything up to roughly 6″ × 6″ is included. Prefer the wood plain? Tell us and we will ship it un-engraved.
That makes these boards a natural wedding, anniversary, housewarming or retirement gift, and a straightforward one for restaurants and businesses that want their mark on something people will actually keep.

Flint's Woodshop is a one-person shop in Washington Township, in Macomb County, Michigan, just north of Detroit. Everything on this site is designed, cut, glued, sanded, engraved and finished by one pair of hands — mine — and has been since 2003.
Boards ship anywhere in the United States. If you are local to Macomb County or the north Detroit suburbs, you are welcome to arrange pickup instead and see the board in person before you take it home.
Because every board is finished before it is listed, what you see in the photographs is the exact piece that ships — the same grain, the same colour, the same dimensions. Nothing is a stock photo and nothing is made to order after the fact.
